White feminism = Blanking (HB = p. 58)

If white feminism = blanking, the (em)bolden badge does the opposite – it lifts up killjoy feminism as intersectional feminism. As Ahmed says, “Intersectionality is arm. Intersectionality is army” (LFL, p. 234). While you have already defined feminism if you’ve earned your Out on a Limb badge, the current assignment requires you to think critically about how feminism itself is part of the problem.

“Book it:*” Read HB Ch. 2 – specifically pages 58-61; HB Ch. 6 – specifically pages 218 – 222; Intersectional feminism: what it means and why it matters from UN Women HERE;  and listen to Konjuring Killjoy Episode 8 HERE.

Based on all this – define/discuss the key terms: white feminism, paper feminists, neoliberalism/neoliberal feminism, and intersectional feminism. Be sure to highlight the key similarities and key differences between/among them. Which concept seems most in line with the feminist killjoy? Why?

“Live it:” Recall/reflect on white feminism, paper feminists, and intersectional feminism as you see/experience it in your everyday life. Can you identify and describe an example for each?

“Make it:” Bring white feminism/paper feminists and intersectional feminism to life through some sort of creation. Your creation may be written – perhaps a dialogue between “characters” as if in a movie or play; or poem. It may be visual – video, photography, drawing/painting/animation – or audio – a song, an arrangement, etc… Be creative and use whatever medium feels most natural/empowering to you.
